CHILDREN AND PSYCHIATRIC DRUGS

In the United States today, more than 6 million children have been put on mind-altering psychiatric drugs for the learning and behavioral state called "Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder" or "ADHD."

In Australia, the stimulant prescription rate for children increased 34-fold in the past two decades, while in Britain the rate increased 9200% between 1992 and 2000.

In Mexico, sales of methylphenidate (generic name for Ritalin) increased 800% between 1993 and 2001.

In 2002, the Netherlands Advertising Commission ordered the country's "Brain Institute" to stop falsely advertising ADHD as a neurobiological or genetic disorder because no scientific evidence exists to prove this. The U.S. National Institutes of Health concluded, "...Our knowledge about the cause or causes of ADHD remains largely speculative."

An examination of the statistics listed above reveal the alarming rate at which children are being medicated for mental disorders.
